Peek inside the Oval Office this President's Day
/Looking for some design inspiration this President’s Day? Look no further, the President’s Oval Office may be just what you’ve been waiting for - whether you're looking to outfit your living room or home office! While all of us may not be able to use a desk quite as unique as the Resolute desk in the Oval Office, we’re sure we can find something with an executive appeal. Located so close to Washington, DC that The Whitehouse is a daily view for some of us, but now let's take a look inside.
The Resolute desk from The Whitehouse is comprised of timbers from the HMS Resolute, “an abandoned British ship discovered by an American vessel and returned to the Queen of England as a token of friendship and goodwill.”
(http://www.whitehousemuseum.org/furnishings/resolute-desk.htm) The desk was created at the request of Queen Victoria who then gave it to President Rutherford Hayes in 1880. You’ll most likely recognize the desk from the famous image below of John Kennedy Jr. peeking from the kneehole panel door as his father, President John Kennedy, was hard at work. Our current President Barack Obama has also used the Resolute desk.
Take a peek above at the current view of the oval office in The White House. Adorned with gold striped walls the President has outfitted his office with a set of beige sofas facing each other and two upholstered arm chairs at the end. An important conversation area is essential in any office, especially this one! To get this same look, try coordinating the set of Sam Moore’s Martha Exposed Wood Arm Chairs.
President Obama sits at the famous Resolute desk, an executive desk in a medium finish with amazing attention to detail. For your office, choose something with functional features and looks that will certainly impress. The Richmond 66 Inch Double Pedestal Executive Desk from Aspenhome provides a traditional look with modern conveniences like full extension ball-bearing drawer slides to reach further into drawers and hold more weight, cord management systems, and a felt-lined drawer for your storage. Complete your desk with the Executive Seating Swivel Tilt Office Chair by Seven Seas by Bradington Young, featuring tufted leather on the back, seat and track arms.
To complete the room, don’t forget a pair of exposed wood arm chairs next to your desk like President Obama. Since these are accenting the executive desk, choose something with an eye-catching feature like the Occasional Chair with Elegant Back Cut-Out by Fairfield. Don’t forget the accessories - every room needs its finishing touches and we found that an oval rug might be the most fitting for this room! A traditional floral rug is key with this decor and we found a great option from the Caesar Collection by Surya.
