How to Choose Fabrics for Your Sofas, Sectionals, and Living Rooms

Stumped when it comes to choosing fabrics for your room? Start with a print that speaks to you for a pillow fabric – and build from there! Our sales staff recently went through a training and team exercise to teach them how to help guide customers in their fabric selections. Belfort Furniture’s Upholstery Buyer teaches the art of fabric selection through choosing pillow fabrics first.

1.  Choose a Print that ‘Speaks to You’ for a pillow fabric

2.  Build off of your color palette from your first fabric choice.

Choose something that will complement – often if you’ve chosen a floral pattern you’ll want to choose a stripe or geometric print.

3.  Remember to stay true to your style and desire.

Maybe you’d prefer to incorporate a solid fabric with a micropattern as a pillow, too!

4.  Choose your base cloth last!

Now that you have your overall color palette defined, choose a color for your base cloth and determine what fabric weave or fiber type is most important to you. Furnishing a home with children or pets? Consider Sunbrella fabrics for their durability and easy cleaning!
