Apartment Therapy and Furniture Today's Style Survey for 2013

Ever wonder what's on the horizon when it comes to trends for interior design?  Apartment Therapy, a design blog, and Furniture Today, a major furniture industry newspaper, joined forces and produced a survey to find out what's new and what's next in the world of home interiors.  The results were produced into a fun graphic by Apartment Therapy - see the full image here.  We picked our 4 favorite findings from the survey and paired them with inspiring images of furnishings available at Belfort Furniture. First up, 2013's go-to design color!  This one doesn't surprise us - of those surveyed 29% said Blues, 18% said Grays, and 13% said Greens.  We've been seeing these hues in many showrooms at market and throughout fashion and home interiors trends. Blues and greens are excellent statement colors for a room and great choices for accents.  Utilizing greys throughout a space is popular for a new twist on neutrals.

Where do you like your TV?  Out of those surveyed, 30% said hanging on the wall and 70% said on a piece of furniture.  There's something about pairing the perfect piece of furniture with your new flat screen TV, no matter what room it's in.  When hanging your television on the wall it looks best to place a tv stand beneath it to help anchor the room and to store your television accessories.

Something we always recommend when designing or redecorating is that your home furnishings should reflect your personal style.  Apartment Therapy's survey found that 97% of those asked agreed.  It's great to see how different homes can be and how they can reflect each owner - from a casual cottage inspiration to a chic dream.

Seventy one percent say they will do something differently the next time they buy.  You may think, "What could I do differently while furniture shopping?"  Maybe you'll purchase everything to complete the room at once like rugs, accessories, and window treatments.  One surveyed consumer from California mentioned that he or she would have "invested more time into research and allowed myself a much bigger budget."  Don't feel tied down to one price range, there's always some wiggle room within your budget if you've found something you love!
